So I have decided to purchase an Argentine B&W....now heres the tough part

OK, Most of my reptiles are housed in jumbo storage boxes 40inx17inx20in, I am wondering for the first 5 months if he could be housed in this container? I have much larger cages 12ftx9ftx4ft which my adult niles are housed in I just built a new enclosure for an expected arrival but they never showed up, so I have a huge cage but I am fearing that a ten inch baby tegu could easly escape from it. Also I use a sand/dirt combo in all my cages a 1:2 ratio, i get both the sand and the dirt from my property, would this be a suitable substrate for a B&W? These are the small cages I have, please give me advice on which would be the most suitable cage for a baby B&W, as i said above a plastic jumbo storage box 40inx17inx20in, a glass aquarium 52inx15inx26in and a wooden screen cage 48inx11inx9in. In my experiences i have always found plastic over glass but who knows I'd rather just ask.

Lastly I have heard the argentine is more handleable than the columbian, is this true? I have not made the purchase yet, just talked to the breeder I want to know before i buy. Also will I need to get these animals vaccinated if they live outdoors? Will they willingly eat mice and rat pinkies, or must i give them crickets as babies? I also breed hissing cockroaches, are they a good food source for tegus? Hmm lol i know i want to ask more oh yes temps, my niles indoor cages are set to range from 85-90 with a basking spot of 100, what temps should i use for a tegu? All my animals, including my snakes are outside for at least 2 hours a day, this is sufficient for a tegu? How large for a water bowl? I know there are websites and books for this info but i prefer to ask peoples personal accounts, if you could help me i would appreciate it greatly!!!!

Thank You,

Brad

Hi Argentines are generally more dosile then Columbians. I've never heard of anyone giving their tegu a vaccine. Raising the basking temp to 120 would be on the safe side especally if you've got a tile or something that heats up under the light. The temp on the cool end should get down to 80 but not below 75. Sand/dirt would be great as long as it's 6" deep or more. I just use a bowl that they can drink out of. I'm sure he'd appreate 2 hours a day running around. Feed mostly insects when he's young. Did I cover it all? G' luck!
