GOOD GOD...Will these things ever stop laying?? TRI COLOR question for JIM

snmreptiles Oct 24, 2005 10:43 PM

First off, SO Glad that that male ate for you Bill...Personally I have two more gentlemen waiting on 2.5 of these guys, and have been for almost a month. I WILL NOT send out an animal that isn't eating on it's own on NON SCENTED pinks!! I also have 3 more pairs that I need to get going for trades, I will wait until they are eating GREAT rather than taking the chance of having a customer have something negative to say about us!!

NOW on to the topic...I just got a clutch of 13 eggs...IN Oct...She hasn't been with the male since June, as she is a first year breeder, and I didn't want to burn her out. Jim is this usual? She shed, then wouldn't eat to save her life (Which is HIGHLY unusual...They will follow you around the tub with mouths wide open if you have food!) I told Shell, She has eggs, she blew me off and gave me that "YEAH RIGHT" look that I'm sure all you married men know well LMAO!! Anyway needless to say she laid a clutch 5 days later, nearly 3 months after any other clutches!!

I've been waiting a few years for the price to come down to a reasonable level. If they put out that many babies, it shouldn't be long!

Don't wait get them now. I have some posted as of today. there are still not very many of these guys out there and not enough people producing them for the price to go down much for a long time (IHOPE).. I have been selling them for about ten years now and I am selling them now for about 50.00 more per pair then I was back then, and I always sell out of them and I don't usually every advertise them. I just talk about them and show them off on the forum and people buy them all up before I need to advertise them.. these are my favorite snake and might become yours as well if you buy some and see how cool they are.. just this little bit of talking about them will probable cause me to sell out of them now for the rest of the year or longer.. good for me and good for all the people that buy them.

ok Im done !!

thats normal for these guys, if any things not normal it would be that she waited 3 months to lay the next clutch. my females lay a clutch every 28 days or so with or without a male. the longer they are not with a male the more the eggs become infertile. one of my females just laid 13 eggs today and this was her 8th clutch in 8 months. but all my females will eat all the time. even while they are laying eggs if I would let them. the only way to get them to stop is to keep the male away from them and cut way back on the feedings. and maybe cool them down a bit as well. but as long as they stay nice and big and in good health then just let them do there thing ! good luck and if you can post the pics of the eggs so I can see if they look fertile or not.

A few look fertile...I would say 3 out of the 13, but we didn't provide a nest box either! These things are CRAZY...Once they start eating they don't stop, and apparently once they start breeding they don't stop either! LOL I as well don't know that many people that have these either...Can think of 4 that I have seen list them including myself and Jim! They are very cool snakes!

I dont give mine a nest box at all. I tried to get mine to use a nest box and out of about 20 clutches they only used the nest box 1 time after that I just stoped putting one in there and they do just fine in there empty cage. just like these ones. so I would say you just dont need a nest box for these girls.. thanks.

Jim,

This surprizes me as I have not had a clutch out of a nest box if provided...Sometimes sounds like we have two different species!! LMAO Just goes to show, there is more than one way to skin a cat...And what works for one, may not work for another!

BILL...SOOOOOOOO glad to hear that, these guys grow at an astounding rate and have a HUGE appetite once they start! Glad you like them!
