Het Orange Ghost?

vtrescuekid Oct 25, 2005 01:23 AM

I'm an avid herp collector and don't really specialize in any one area, but I've currently got a "normal" ball python female and have the opportunity to have a male ball python that is 100% het for Orange Ghost for $200 meaning there's a 50% chance of having an orange ghost after breeding (years from now). Does this seem like a good risk to take considering what I have already? Or is this just a useless risk? Just looking for people's opinions before I spend $200 on a baby male.

Actually, providing the male is indeed a 100% het ghost, (meaning the seller is not lying to you), there is not a lot of risk involved. Breed him to your normal for a couple of seasons, keep back all the girls (which will be 50% hets), and grow them up. Some of these girls should prove out as hets when you breed them back to him, and voila, orange ghosts!

Good luck, Christy

I agree with Christy, not a waste at all and an inexpensive, just longer, route to obtaining a morph that you want.

That being said, $200 is not a great deal on a 100% Het orange ghost. Look around, there are reputable dealers that sell them for less.
