Fish tank incubator??

jat723 Oct 25, 2005 10:11 PM

Does anyone know of any websites that have step by step instructions on building an incubator out of a fish tank? I heard someone telling me about it using water and an under water fish tank heater and elevating the eggs in a plastic container over the water. Please post any info that you have on this. thanks

What you said sounded pretty good.
I made one out of a ice box from a camper..It works really well. Isnt overly big and is plastic inside so the humidity doesnt affect it.
I just put a large heat pad in the bottom with a tub of water sitting on it and plugged it in to a dimmer and adjusted it till it stayed around 85.
You can also do it with a rubbermaid container

JASONMATTES...Thanks for responding... I notice that you are one of the few members that try to respond to alot of questions and try to help in any way that you can.... Even if you are not 100% positive on something, you try to give as much helpful information as possible. ---

Anyway, i ended up finding some information at this website. I ended up using a 45 gallon rubbermaid tub with three smaller shoe box type plastic containers. I drilled some holes in the big tub and put plastic coated, metal rods through the tub and rested the smaller plastic boxes on that. I am using a submerisble heater for the water and I have a digital thermometer in the smaller tubs to see if I am at the right temp. I also plan on putting a small power-head in the water to keep it moving a little to keep it from getting stagnant. I found this website online and somewhat based it on this. Thanks again for responding.
