Uros wanting to breed

peanutbuttermdc Jul 21, 2003 06:27 PM

Today I put my four mali's out in my room to run around for awhile. Siris and Kaia live in one tank and Keegan and Lily live in another, but they have always been friendly. Keegan and Lily have only been with me for about two months, so I have no idea if they were in brumation this year. Well, as soon as they all got out of their tanks, chaos started. Kaia started laying on her back as soon as any male approached her, and Lily started head bobbing Siris like crazy. She then started going after Siris and nipping him on the folds of his side and neck, of which he really did not like. It seems like Lily really wants Siris, but he doesn't want her. Is there anyway that we could persuade him to breed with her? Or does he absolutely have to have brumation in order to want to breed with her? Should I switch the pairs around? Will Lily and Siris breed if kept together? Just curious. I would love to have little baby uros.

well the flipping on the back thing means that your one girl is not ready to breed. as far as the behavior the other girl is exhibiting, we are seeing something similar in our ackies. it may not be mating behavior, rather displays of dominance.
