Possible Regurge???...Need advise please.

afoll Oct 26, 2005 03:41 PM

I have a suriname boa, that is about one year old. He is CBB and never had a problem as far as I know. I fed him an appropriate prey item about 12 days ago. I went away on a trip for the past 4 days. When I returned I found a small "hair-ball" looking type item, that was probably rodent fur as well as a seperate pile of urates near it. There was no foul odor like when other snakes regurge like I have witnessed before. This morning I found a perfectly formed fecal stool. The snake looks good and all and looks and acts like he is hungry again. This was my first time feeding the new snake. My fear is that this represents a regurge episode, but I hope someone can convince me that it was just a stool.

Thanks in advance,
Andy

Sorry I don't. The "item" was about the same size as a piece of feces 4.5 in X .75 in. but made of fur, Grey in color but no foul odor at all. I pulled it apart with a pair of gloves on and it appeard to be made of fur, it was dry in appearnce. There were no bones, and there was no tail. It was definitely differnt than a normal feces.

I am yet to see a snake regurgitate anything that is not at least slightly similar in shape to it's prey or part of it. Also, I have never seen one that was entirely hair, they all had some muscle tissue. What you described sounds completely normal to me.

fecal material that looks like "hair" before. The regurges I have seen look like a fetal rodent embryo/ the alien, all soft and slimey. The smell is so bad that even your dog wouldn't eat it. I guess I am going to feed him in a day or so.

Thanks
Andy

Sounds like a normal defecation...regurges tend to be flatter covering more area and really moist....

Take care-

The Item was sausage shaped I pulled it apart and this is what it looks like now. I think you get the idea.

Yeah that looks normal....I keep a few different species of snakes including some Cribos and a few other colubrids and I really enjoy working with Boa poop, nice and solid. It looks to me that the feces is just bundled up hair.
