Pics of the new guy! And a newbie question or two

AlteredMind99 Oct 26, 2005 04:00 PM

Two questions..

1. Is it possible for the tank to be too hot for a uro? I just checked my temps and the basking site is 130 right now. is that ok?

2. is it normal for them to be pretty reclusive while they are shedding? Mine just started shedding and has been in hiding all day! At first i thought he might be in hiding because his tank is too hot, but he is hiding right underneath the basking spot...so im not sure that its that

He is precious! So curious too! I love the babies.

130 would absolutely not be a problem for an adult, for a juvie I kept the temps a little lower. As long as you have a gradient though, and there are hides on both the cool and warm sides, he should be able to just move if he is too hot.

It is also not at all uncommon for uros to get a little moody and reclusive when they are shedding, plus since he is in a new environment, he may be a little more so than usual as well.

I would not worry about it unless he stays in there and doesn't eat for a few days, even then there may be nothing to worry about, but at least it is a point to use as reference.

Great. Well, i checked him temps just now and he has a basking spot of 119 and cool side temp of 80. Is that a good enough gradient?

I know he is still eating during the day because when i come home his veggie dish is always mostly gone!

Sounds like a perfect gradient, and as long as he is eating, I would not worry about him at all.
