Question about growth in stunted burmese python....

Charlotte Jul 21, 2003 06:40 PM

ok
here's the deal... I have a aquaintence of mine that has an albino green burm that she's had since a hatchling... he's 6-7 feet right now and is 4-5 years old. His head is like that of a 5 foot burm and body is as fat as a 9 foot burm. It's a sad sad sight and it kills me to see it.
but she is having problems locating a place to stay right now and the burm might be in my care for a while... my question is--with right cage size, and right prey items and a regular feeding schedule do you think he would grow to be his normal adult size or will he remain the size he is now for the rest of his life? (however long that will be)...

Just wondering... thanks!
Charlotte

I have reared many "runts" that turned into be large, robust and outwardly healthy individuals. You said it, with the proper environment and diet, this particular burm is still very young and good husbandry will most likely rectify the damage that was done....don't expect overnight results; these things take time. There could be long term "defects" as you mentioned but in most cases, these types of cases will be overcome with good husbandry. Hopefully your friend will just give this animal to you outright.
