Ok - another iteration on my way to the final design...

Hi everyone,

I think I've finally worked out a pretty good layout for my new enclosure design plans. In this version I moved my burm's enclosure to the top level because I didn't feel it would be safe to have to bend down to the floor to reach into a three foot deep enclosure to get a 12 foot long Burmese python out. Also, its not easy to be so far hunched over while cleaning out an enclosure that is down so low (the smaller ones are much quicker and easier to clean).

I know this is the Burm forum, but I just wanted to show the overall finished design I'm considering. This layout will house all five of my snakes in one space-efficient 'multiplex'. It also has a couple of small cabinets for storing miscellaneous items in (i.e., spray bottle of vinegar!).

Here's the current plan:

Please let me know what you think and any comments you might have.

Thanks,
- Mark

im a boa guy, but i come here to look at pictures and since you guys tend to post about cages more then the boa forms. to me the cage looks like a nice design. however having the top (most difficult to clean) cage floor at 4ft seems like an awkward situation to me. you wuold probably have to be on a stool or something to reach in 3ft. in addition i personally would not feel comfortable reaching in 3ft with such a small opening. i would deffinatly try setting up your bed or something so you can get an idea of how easy it will be to work in a cage like that. i wouldnt feel comfortable reaching under to the other side of a single bed with only a foot and a half of clearence. if it works for you then i think you have a really nice design, but better to figure out if it works before you build it. good luck.

That's a good point, about being able to easily reach to the back of a 3 foot deep cage. But I think it will be okay because I do that now with the Vision cage he is currently in (which is 3' deep x 6' long).

I'll set something up tonight when I get home to test it, but I went with 4' high (to the floor of the highest cage) because that is roughly the height between my waist and shoulders (a comfortable 'working' zone where I don't have to compromise my safety or stability by bending over to get into the cage, and its not high enough that I would have to reach up to get to it).

I'll try it out to be sure.

Thanks,
