Thinking of building a rack system....yes another one of those posts!

goini04 Oct 26, 2005 10:21 PM

Hey guys,

I was viewing the individuals rack system that he built below and was quite impressed. I would like to do something similar myself. I was just thinking of maybe a basic rack system for hatchlings or really small snakes. What size rack would you recommend. I dont really have alot of small stuff so I was thinking of something along the lines of maybe 4' high x 18" deep and 24" wide? Does anyone see a problem with those dimensions? Do you guys think I will be able to find rubbermaid fill ins that will fit that?

Would flex watt tape be the best way to heat a rack system or would there be a more preferred method. This will unfortunately not be in a constantly heated room, so I will need to provide supplemental heating.
Also, how much do you think it would cost to build a decent rack system?

Thanks for any input.

Chris

Find the boxes that work for you first and then build the rack around that. The dimensions you listed will hold the typical 28 qt. and 12 qt. boxes. I built the one below for less than $40 (no heat or boxes) and it can hold seven 28 qt. boxes or fourteen 12 qt. boxes.
