Am I the only one who doesn't like 'paradox' snakes?

kingofspades Oct 26, 2005 11:43 PM

To me it just seems more like a defect than a desirable trait.
This is just my opinion of course. I know some of you love paradox abinos and pastels etc.

Just kidding there's a few others out there like you. Of course I'm not one of them

besides that one, I don't like them. Especially the 2% Paradox's that people think are just INSANE!!! Too hyped..

There's a couple others with a bit of black. The one Trooper Walsh hatched out a couple years back is pretty sweet.

Eric,
How does the paradox coloration reproduce itself in the snakes offspring?

zefdin Oct 27, 2005 11:15 AM

Sorry, I hit enter before I was finished.

Do the black marks reproduce randomly or is there a consistant pattern to them?

Thanks,

Alan

A paradox is just that - a contridiction - like having an albino with black spots. If an albino is the supposed to lack pigmentation how can it have black spots? Genetics are currently unknown and so far they appear to be random events.

well if its an "albino" with black, then its not an albino and needs to be called something else....... thats how i see it *confused*

thats like calling myself a blonde when there aint a blonde hair on my body but my parents are blonde...... does that mean im a paradox blonde? (im a redhead) lmao its the same thing. if it can produce black pigment its NOT AN ALBINO

So far all the offspring have been fairly normal in appearance. This line does seem to have some type of genetic reduced pattern and banding to it. We hope to get some eggs from breeding the Paradox to one of his 03' offspring this season.

just wondering if you proved that thing genetic or not yet? I know you've had it for a few years now (at least)... I sure hope it proves genetic, it's a beauty!

Thanks,
Bristen.

Yeah, the paradox is ugly. I don't see the point of breeding albino's with a dirt smudge. If it was solid black patches, like some kind of photo-negative Pied, that would be cool.

I've never seen a paradox Like the one in the second post! The only one I've seen is the first one that had one little smudge. That snake in P2 is bad a@@. Who produced it? Is Paradox proven now? Last I knew it wasn't. Where the hell have I been?

I produce the Paradox pictured in 2001. As far as I'm aware no one has line bred theirs yet. I believe mine and one other, not sure who has it, are the oldest ones both hatched in 01'.

I'm just curious, does anyone know how many paradox albinos there are in the US? I know it would only be an approximate, but with everyone spinning their wheels trying to figure out the inheritance of this trait, it would be helpful if what IS known were more available. So far I've heard of two males. Are there more than 2 Paradox albinos?
I grew up raising snakes with my dad, and got hooked on the genetics stuff at an early age. Now I'm in college and taking some VERY cool genetics courses... and slowly convincing my husband to let me buy more snakes.
I'd like to ponder the Paradox a bit myself.
