how do i loan my morph males to breed

sjs Oct 27, 2005 01:35 AM

are breeder loans usually set up by any set standards and if so what are they.......like who gets what .....where does it take place.........my problem is ive got too many males to breed and and id rather not get rid of them but it seems silly to let their potential not be acheived.........do i advertise locally for small breeders with extra females or females that they may have used for less expensive males........i guess my biggest problem is what do i get as the owner of the male and what does my future partner in this get............thanks for any help ......Jerry

You basically figure the clutch split out in the trade you make...

But I need to warn you that if you are loaning out your male, you need to make sure that the person that is taking your snake in is very trustworthy, as they will be the ones taking care of your snake for you for the next couple of months.

Basically, if you are looking to loan out your snake, you can post it here in the classifieds under breeder loans, or you can do what ever you can to find a breeder that has left over females. Good luck!

I'd like to hear about some previous breeding loans people have done. Just the basic agreements before and after, give us some ideas of what to expect as in agreements and what not to expect. Both sides of the deal. Also any good or bad stories, it seems this topic is not covered much and where better to ask then here.

Thanks,

this past season I loaned out a female to a good friend of mine that has a pastel male. we agreed that we would split the pastel's produced and he could have all the normals. we got 6 perfect eggs and it was going good until they hatched. We only got 1 pastel out of the clutch. Now the problem was, who gets it. I told him to keep it as it was a female. He felt bad and we came up to another conclusion. My pied project is 2 yrs ahead of his so we agreed that when his het pied female gets breeding size, that I will breed it 1 yr to a het pied male unless i have a male pied breeding then the following yr to a pied male for a total of 2 breedings. We are also working on my albino project together as he has a male albino and I have a het female and male. My advice is that if you are going to do a breeder loan, the person with the more expensive snake get's the other person's animal no matter how good of friends you are.
My experience is a very positive one as I got a female pastel when I shouldn't have but i've heard horror stories of them too.
Be very careful.

Well jerry, Here is how I do breeding loans, The FEMALE always comes to the male MORPH. If I was doing the breeding loan and I had the male MORPH the female Normal would come to my house, I would breed it and get the eggs and after the eggs are laid I would give the female back to the Loaner/partner. Then I would hatch the eggs. Then we would split the clutch, but any odd number morph produced would be mine(the morph holders). So if we bred a pastel to a normal and produced 3 pastels I would get 2 and the person that gave me the normal female would get one. That is the way I do Most breeding loans with friends of mine to get them started in the ball game. THis is a fare guide I think but you can do whatever you want when you have the MORPH animal. Thanks David
