Bombina Orientalis- Fire Belly Toads

gdog4life Jul 21, 2003 07:16 PM

I have 4 Fire Belly toads in my 20 gallon aquarium. Due to the F.B. Toads toxins, territorial, and aggressive behavior does anyone know what other types of animals could be place in my aquarium with my fire belly toads? (I was thinking placing them with 2 chinese fire belly newts, since they come from the same region)

The only thing that can be kept in with firebellied toads safely is other firebellied toads, and due to toxins it's not even that safe. Oh and they will try to eat the newts.

Hello,
I'm afraid ABSOLUTLY nothing can pretty much be with fbts. As said there aggresive, and have a special toxins. Which will most likely hurt any animal kept with them.

The only other live thing I can see being put in the tank, are aquatic plants, and maybe some feeder guppies. But being that you have alot of fbt's that may not even work.

I have 3guppies in my fbt's tank. Thats from trial and error, birth(AND LOTS OF IT!!!), food, giving some away,death,etc...lol. The ones left are a mother, and her two little babies, that if were any smaller she'd eat! I started off with a dozen.

I also, once tried some goldfish, well to say the least those didn't last very long,lol.... hmmm maybe a day or two.

Well, thanx for all the help. I will try to add 2 guppies in the aquarium. I hope they last longer then the goldfish.

I *think* you can safely mix different species of fire-bellied toads (in addition to the Orientals), but they aren't as easy to acquire or as attractive to most of us.
