I know someone who has an adult black headed python that lost the fork part of its tongue when it was young,would this affect its breeding?
No. I have a young Angolan that can't stick his tongue out. It's there, and the vet can pull it out, but it goes back in slowly. On rare occasions immediately after eating it will flick once or twice, but that's all. He eats dead rats. I asked Dave Barker at Daytona this year about breeding problems when he gets older, and he said enough scent information gets through to the Jacobson's organ without him using the tongue. I also saw a TV show the other night that showed some Mountain Sheep had that organ...which surprised me. Wonder what other animals have it. The BH is better off than my Angolan, so there should be no problems.
