how to get tar off of snakes belly

catfisher79 Oct 27, 2005 11:35 AM

One of my Pythons escaped and somehow got tar on her belly. What is the safest way to remove it?

There isn't a whole lot as I have been able to get most of it with some warm water and gentle scrubbing. I just don't want to use anything that will harm her skin.

I would just wait for her to shed.

You can try wiping it off with mineral oil. If there is not too much so that it interferes with moving around, leave it alone and it will come off next shed cycle. Worry about how it escaped.???????

I think I'll just leave her alone. She can get around just fine and should go into a shed within a week.

She got out because I was out of town and had a friend check on her and the rest of my animals. He forgot to fully close and lock her enclosure. Each of my cages has a lock that can only be opened with a key.

I have had pythons for the last 15 years and have never had one escape until now. It was a horrible experience and I have decided that nobody will have access to my snake room in the future.

Thanks to those of you who responded.
