Rex has a Friend

ChaoticCoyote Oct 27, 2005 01:01 PM

During the "cold" snap here in Florida, my youngest daughter brought me the mail. On the back side of an envelope was one of the brown anoles so common around here.

We've had anoles in the house before, so I didn;t think much of it when this small one jumped onto my desk. Imagine my surprise, though, to find the anole *living* in my year-old iguana's cage! The anole, now known as brownie, has been in and on the ig's enclosure for four days now, and shows no sign of leaving.

Iguanasaurus Rex sometimes watches the anole, but otherwise leaves it alone.

The anole is in the upper right-hand corner of the attached picture, while Rex basks in the lower-left.

You know you really shouldn't allow that. First they have one friend over and everything is fine. Then another friend, and that friend brings a friend, and so on. The next thing you know the entire cage is full of beer bottles, cigarette butts, some strange smelling smoke, and then the police and immigration bust in and start checking IDs for age and citizenship... And you know full well there are many reptiles in Florida that have illegally entered the wild without their proper documentation.

LOL, really cute picture!

Here's a close-up of the anole. I *think* it's a cuban brown anole, anolis sagrei; we have literally hundreds of these living all around (and sometime in) our house. They range from light tan to almost black, with a variety of back patterns. Some have frills along their spin, though they otherwise look the same as the others.

I may be wrong but that looks more like an eastern fence lizard with those markings on his back. JN
