Plastic tops?

phoenix50 Oct 27, 2005 02:03 PM

Does anyone know how to make, or purchase some plastic hard covers with airholes for aquarium tanks?

I am currently using screen covers, but they are hell on humidity. Has anyone came up with a creative idea?

I have already purchased the automatic mister (it doesn't actually MIST) and I have big ceramic water dishes in the tanks and I have tried putting wet towels over part of the tanks..these are all time consuming tasks, and I would like a simple solution, hopefully...if there is none..well, nothing ventured, nothing gained!

Thanks in advance!

Just use a piece of plexy glass or glass and cut it to cover all but maybe 6 or 8 inches on one side put water on opposite side should help out allot

Thanks guy! Lots of good ideas! I think I will purchase one of Jason's Jungle Rack Systems for the winter to keep the temps stable.

However, because I love the beauty of the tank, and need the functionality of the rack...since I don't think that the rack gives them a lot of maneuverablity during feedings, I will feed and mate in the tanks and use the racks for the winter months.

In the meantime...I will either put foil over half or have plexiglass to cut as suggested. Thanks again!

You could tape aluminum foil on the OUTSIDE of the lid. Plexy would work as well.

You could ditch the aquarium and buy a plastic tub. We use four different sized tubs on our racks. The long(3ft) sweaterboxes tubs are Sterilite and we get them at Target. The lids snap on nicely but if you don't use them in a rack you will need to use rubber straps, or velcro, or something else to secure the lid.
