BPs - which thermostat?

foxfeather Oct 28, 2005 02:21 AM

I am looking to invest in a good quality thermostat for my bps, and there are so many varying opinions and products I really have no idea what to think. I would welcome anyone's experiences with the various systems, since it seems people feel really strongly about one brand or another.
The Helix DBS1000 is at the top of my list right now, but was also looking at the Ranco thermostats (I use heat tape, belly heat) but have gathered they are not so great because they constantly turn the heat tape on and off). What about the Herpstat compared to the abovementioned models?

Also, what have people found is best used with hovabators (or similar incubators) for an incubator thermostat?

Thanks so much, I feel rather clueless about the technology end of this right now.

All the ones you listed are great-
I use a Ranco (on-off) on my racks because it can handle more power. Good on-offs are Ranco & Johnson.

I use a Herpstat on my incubator because you need a GOOD proportional for eggs. Some proportionals are Helix, Herpstat & Big Apple has one too I think. Proportionals handle less power than on/offs but can be set to provide a automatic night drop.
