Attaching an old Under tank heater?

yellowfox Oct 28, 2005 07:39 AM

So I am starting up a colony of blaptica dubia. Bought a couple rubber maid bins, cut holes in the top and hot glued plastic canvas so that it was sealed but would work as a vent.

My question is, I have an under tank heater from a while ago. It heats up and works perfect but the stickyness is gone so the pad won't adhere to the bin. Is there a way to attach it again? On the package it says that the heater should not be used after it has been detached. Well I had to since the tank it was on broke.

Would hot glue work? Just on the corners possibly? Let me know what you think.

you have to be very careful reusing them. usually when you peel them off it damages the top and is more prone to short out. if you want to skip the risk of a fire, i think they have human heating pads at walmart for really cheap. as for attaching it, is there a reason it needs to be attached?if you just sit the bin on top of the pad, then you can reuse it on other tanks later.

i haven't heard of the human heating pads. Do you have to watch the temp?

most human heating pads have controls on them so when you figure out the temp for like setting #1 and #2 and stuff you will kno what to set it to. a lot of the herp books i have say to use the human heating pads. i used them for an iguana before and it worked well.

Human heating pads should not be used for reptiles.. They now have a cut off on them to shut the power off every few hours because it is dangerous to run the 24/7.. If your pad is not damaged then use foil tape to attach it onto the tub
