I thought this might be of interest and benefit to the forum. With winter approaching(or here depending on where you live)good, effective heating is of benefit to all crocodilian keepers.
This idea was first presented by Chris Baker on the forum, I modified it for my own uses but the idea remains the same. In fact in these photos is the actual unit Chris brought to me.
The first 3 pictures(I hope) are of the pool at night with the piping exposed. The pipes are eventually covered and invisible except at the pond exit and entrance points. These photos where taken on a 40-42 degree night on the Gulf Coast of Texas. The pool is approximately 1200 gallons. Using this heater over night I am able to keep the pool at 65-75 degrees more than adequate for safety. In the next few weeks I will add a second heating element that will allow me to keep the water 10-15 degrees warmer.
The method is very cost effective, but the pump drams alot of amps. Make sure your fuse box is up to snuff. I blew alot of fuses a first. I run the pump on cold overcast days and on cold nights.
