Regardless of tank size, temperature, etc....i just have a general question about the behavior of newts, specifically RED-SPOTTED EASTERN NEWTS...i'll do whatever's necessary to care for them (i just got them today), but i'm just trying to understand how they think/behave in general...

let's say hypothetically i drop some frozen bloodworms into my newt's tank...i drop them into the water but my newt is up on top of a rock (out of water) maybe 6 inches away from the food and he didn't even see me drop it in...so the food sinks to the bottom of the tank and he's still up on that rock. --i guess i'm trying to understand the "mind" of a newt here--...so let's say (again, hypothetically) he's still up on that rock a day later (he hasn't moved an inch because he's lazy/happy there!) but now he's really, really hungry...

Will he have the common sense to leave the rock (even though he really loves being up there!) and go searching for food because now he's so darn hungry...for example, would he "dive" off the rock into the water, drift down to the bottom, walk around, see the bright red bloodworms, and eat them up???...

--OR--

...Do they not have enough common sense for that...for example, even though he's extremely hungry would he just stay up there on the rock forever cause he likes it there, letting himself starve to death in the meantime?

i'm basically trying to determine: When eastern newts are hungry, will they purposely go around the tank looking for food, or will they be kinda dumb and just let themselves starve to death?

i realize all newts act differently based on how they're taught to eat, if they're captive bred or caught live, etc...but this post is simply meant to pose the general question.

any opinions would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advace for your replies.
