Question from a Chuckwalla Newbie

weblit Oct 28, 2005 01:37 PM

Hi,

I've been the caretaker of a Chuckwalla for several years. I've noticed that roughly every 6 months he (or she) changes from a relatively light eater and sociable animal to a voracious eater and unsociable little Chuckwalla.

Is this common among the species? Any help appreciated.

Thanks,
Mark

My experience is pretty limited (2 current & 1 past chucks). But, mine have all had fairly consistant dispositions. Do his mood swings have any seasonal pattern? Maybe it has to do with breeding season hormones or something. My current male is still a juvie and the male I took care of previously was nasty tempered 24-7

It's very strange because a couple of times each year he just basks under his lamp or lies on his hot rock and eats a LOT (and gets FAT!) whereas most of the time he just wants to come out and play or hide behind his favorite couch pillow.
