Good diet for tortioses?

lovemybeardies Oct 28, 2005 04:57 PM

I would like to know what you guys think the best diet for sulcata and leopard tortioses would be? Where I work we have quite a few of each and I do not totally agree with there diet from things I have read. They feed them many different types of greens, which I know is good. But what about sweet potatoe, different types of orange squashes cooked on a daily basis for them? They normally feed them some sort of fruit daily also. Anywhere from apples to watermelon. They also get cucumbers, green beans, summer squash, and zuccini on a daily basis. I know the greens and probably the raw veggies are good for them but I am not so sure the squashes and fruits are good for them all of the time. But I would have a hard time telling them other wise. If these things are not great for them and there is a good website that says what is please let me know so I can print it out to show them. If not then I guess they are doing a good job and i am wrong. Thanks for any input.

Fruit should not be offered to much. I dont know why but i read it on the net a lot. They like to graze and they are from africa. In africa i dont think there are to many wild growing banannas or oranges. lol.

For sulcatas, go to http://www.sulcata-station.org/diet.html.

For Leopards go to http://www.chelonia.org/Articles/pardaliscare.htm (their diet is similar to sulcata's).
