first captive raised eggs/froglets

sutorherp1 Oct 28, 2005 05:42 PM

My pair of "six-spotted" panamanian Dendrobates auratushad began laying many eggs and I have successfully raised the first two they laid to froglets. They are much different looking than the adults, but I expect to see change. I am currently looking at 14 tadpoles (4 of which have arms and legs) and 3 eggs and breeding continues! Thanks to all those who answered my so many questions in setting up vivariums (mostly on silicone) and the removal and raising of eggs; because of this I haven't had one loss.

I'm not sure why you expect to see changes in the pattern. There has been some speculation that the spotted form is part of the normal patterned population and that there was hand picking of these and selling them as a new form.

Did the parents come from spotted parents or were these imports??

I'm not sure what my adult pair's parents were; I was just told upon purchasing they are six-spotted panamanian morph. Hmm...We'll we shall see with age. If anyone knows about this strain and would feel like explaining that would be awesome. Thanks for the input,
