My Vivarium is Finished!

LizardLadyAma Jul 21, 2003 08:53 PM

Hi everyone!

I posted a little while ago and posted a link to my site where I showed my step-by-step foam/silicone tank building strategy... Well, it's finally planted! The moss still needs to grow in, and the java needs to start covering some of the wood... But I LOVE IT! So I had to share!

WOW that is REALLY nice! Very natural looking! I love it!

my only question, I think those are water bowls on the right hand side of the tank right? If so, why do you need them with the water feature?

I really don't NEED them... but the area where I put them is a pretty large expanse of nothing. I needed something to break up the area. I also needed something that could be wet all the time and not rot. So I used the little nut shells for that. Purely for aesthetics!

VERY NICE!!! I am especially impressed with the wood that you used for the stump in the left corner. A very natural looking vivarium that in time, once it's filled out, will look like a little piece of the rainforest. Congratulations!

Very nicely done Kelly! What are you keeping in it? Also, what's that roundy thing in the hollow in the background? (Upper center in first foto).

I haven't decided on what is going to live here yet... It is a HUGE tank (75 gallon) so whoever does get to live here should probably be big and bright so I can find them! I also want someone who isn't shy. I was thinking of the mint terriblis frogs... but I also LOVE the blues and yellows of some of the other guys.

I have never had dart frogs before, so this is totally new and exiting to me!

I think the round thing you are talking about (to the right of the stump, about the orchid vine, right to the the right of the fuzzy air plant)... That's just a peice of cypress that was connected to the stump. I had to saw it off to make the stump fit in the corner, and it made a nice little cup! It might be a nice place to plant something a little later...

I love the tank man WOW

What kind of pump are you using pr run the water i love the idea of the multiple drip sources i have gotta try that in a 55 i am building right now

Thanks

It is a pump from home depot. It is one for small/medium ponds. Any pump will work as long as it generates sufficient pressure.

I used a hub from a lawn sprinkler system. (You can see exactly how I did it on our website)

Very nice, i'd like to see a brom or 2 on the back, but its not needed. I am going to have to try the foam background I think, but my next tank is much smaller.

With that big of a tank go for a group of Leucs, i'd say 6-8 of them would be cool.

i was thinking the same thing as Kyle. The tank doesnt need any thing more it lookds great the way it is. Honestly i have to say this is the best or second best tank i have ever seen. *When ever i make another one i know who im going to play copy cat with ) But darts really like broms to play on, hide, or just rest.
