i am going to buy a humidifier for my room, my snakes enclosures are dry! i have been misting them 2x a day and can seem to get the humidity up good for them to shed.... degei just shed.... naaza and durga are still waiting, durga has went blue, naaza just went clear today..... the humidity in naazas enclosure was 30% so i misted it again...... durgas was 50%...... naaza i also put in a wet paper towel, that has helped before.... but i am usually pretty good at when they are due to shed.... and this time because the humidity has dropped so much i was way way off.

Why not just provide a humid hide for them to go into? Balls and Corns don't require additional humidity. Neither of these snakes originate from humid areas. I have never adjusted the humidity in my Corn's enclosure, even in the winter, and if he needs additional humidity, he goes into the hide. I don't think he even used the humid hide when he shed a couple weeks ago. All of his sheds have been perfect.

I agree that a humidity box is likely to solve the problem and be the easier route, but I don't knopw what you mean by saying corns don't come from a humid area. I bet the people in Florida would love to know they have low relative humidities.....lol. Besides, even if they came from an area like here where 15% rel hum is high, they tend to hang out itn the more humid microclimates....which is something they can't do in a small cage unless we PROVIDE the special microclimates (like a humidity box).

My ball python had his first succesfull shed today! usually he won't shed his head! Corns and rats never had problems shedding but I provide the humid hide anyway! What I do is add a humid hide for the colubrids. That didn't fair so well for the python. So I misted the whole cage including the glass on the sides to where it was almost wet. too wet can give a ball python a RI. Then throw a towel over the top of the cage. Since you are talking colubrids, just get a piece of toilet paper fold it over and place it on the substrate. Soak it with water and put the hide back on top. mist it 2x a day and you are fine. I disagree with the other poster saying bp's don't need extra humidity to shed. just my opinion though!

Unless you just want a hunidifier I would hesitate before buying one.
Do your tanks have screen tops?
I ended up making custom tops for my aquariums to help retain some of the heat and humidity but with screen-top-tanks I covered half of the screen and added a larger water bowl.
This was all that was needed to allow for easy and complete sheds.
I don't actually worry about the exact relative humidity, I just let the snakes tell me if it is correct.
Good complete sheds, good apetite and consistant bowel movements tell me temps and humidity are fine.
It is especially good when THEY have consistant bowel movements too.....lol just kidding.
