Hides how many?

SteveISU Oct 29, 2005 12:16 PM

Question I asked is I recently lost my leo and have purchased a new one from a breeder. I have typically used two in the past, one on the cool side and one on the warm. The hide on the warm side is the one that I will put moist folded paper towel in when I see my Leo's begin to dull and get ready to shed. Now I don't keep a moist hide in the tank on a constant basis, rather more like an as needed. I'm wondering if most of ya use two hides on the warm side (moist and dry) all the time and then one on the cool side.

My current set up for my Leo is a 20L using only cage carpet (no sand...no way), one food bowl, one calcium dish, one water dish. The hot side is 88 degrees using an overhead 75w bulb and an UTH on a thermostat. The cool side is between 72-76 degrees.

I'll try to snap a pic off if needed.

It seems most people recommend 3 hides, humid hide on warm side, dry hide on warm side (or inbetween warm & cool) and dry hide on cool side. Myself I only have 2 in the tanks with my adults & juvies, humid hide on warm side and dry hide on cool side. I do generally keep the humid hides moist all the time. I use the shredded coconut fiber (Eco-Earth) in all my humid hides & remoisten them about every 3 days or so. I do provide the 3 hides for my hatchlings.

I'm fairly new at this, but here's what I've got:
I've got 2 moist hides on the warm side, sometimes, however, one of them runs dry. I have a dry side on the cool side. This is for a 20L with one gecko. In my 10 G I just have one moist hide on the warm side, and one dry hide on the cool side.

Usually you want 1 for each leo in the tank. I would be a good idea to have a couple on the warm side an da couple on the cooler side, so they have a choice.
