Firebelly Question

Grunngg Oct 29, 2005 09:27 PM

Ok, so I am going to set up a 10 gallon tank for 2 FBT's. I originally wanted to slope the gravel up to make a land area, but how does this sound: Instead of the sloped gravel, I was thinking about filling the tank about two thirds with water and buying a "Turtle Landing". A platform that suction cups the the side of a tank to make a land area for turtles. It's fairly large, so should provide decent land space, and is easy to get on and off of. Do you think that sounds good? Or should I do the gravel? Thanks.

gravel would be much better. it will give more land than the turtle landing. with gravel you can provide shelter on the land, which will make them much more comfortable. besides they will use the land to hunt down crickets anyways, and crickets are more likely to jump off of the turtle landing and drown, being of no use to the toads, and there is more shoreline on the gravel one for the toads and occasional cricket to easily get back onto the land.

I have my Fire-Bellies set up in an enclosure about the size of a 15 gallon aquarium. Instead of actually pouring the water in my tank, I just place a large water dish in there. The dish takes up about half the tank. The rest of the tank is done in coconut fiber with a plant and a hide box. The toads do prefer alot of land, mine often explore and dig, and they normally come onto land to eat. Plus, the water dish makes clean-up easy when toads poop in there, or when crickets drown themselves.
