My ATB is on the ground any help?

nogoodteen Oct 30, 2005 10:14 AM

I saved this ATB from the local pet store they know nothing about anything but they act like it. I heard a guy telling someone that Burms only get no bigger than 12 feet. I laughed and corected him. Anyway, I saved the snake, took him home and put him in a cage with some limbs. Heres what the cage has in it: some branches I took out of an Oak tree, peat moss for the substrate, some fake vines, and a bowl for water. Last night it was in the branches lookin around and everything, I wake up and its on the ground. Is there a reason for this? Should I get a thicker branch for him to perch on or what? Now I have never owned one of these before but I know it will get a better home with me untill I can find someone that knows alot more about them to take him off my hands. So any help you can give me will be greatly apriciated and I'm sure he'll thank you too. . .in the form of a bite. Thank God I have snake hooks around.

Thanks alot,
Blake

Blake,
Amazons will often decend to the floor of their cages, this is a common behavior in this species. Just get rid of the peat moss, and go with some papertowels for now...at leat until you can be sure there are no health issues at play here.

Good luck, I'm sure a few of the more experienced members around here would love to adopt an Amazon if you needed to find a home for him...

Good luck

Thanks Danny,
I'll take everything out today and put some newspaper or paper towls down instead.
I'd love to get him a better home, I think its a male because of the spur size. Someone just needs to email me or somethin if they are interested.
I hope to get some more replys, still debateing on keepin him.
Thanks,
Blake
