Question about breeding Pastels

quantim0 Oct 30, 2005 05:41 PM

My friend and I are considering entering a breeding project together to make some extra money to help support our snake habit. We were thinking of working with pastel ball pythons. He has a 2 normal females and a het albino female. Plus a few normal males. If my understanding is correct, breeding a normal to a pastel should make a 50-50 normal/pastel clutch. But if you breed two pastels together, will you get all pastels? Just wondering. We were going to get yearlings now and breed next year hopefully.

Pastel to normal will give you some pastels and some normals. Pastel to Pastel will give you some pastels, some normals and a super pastel maybe more maybe not.

one male that is an aggessive breeder can easily handle 3 females. there are some people that have had one male breed 7 or more females in one season. The thing you must do is feed him throughout the season and don't waiste him on females that aren't ready. Before you introduce him to females, palpate the females to see if the are producing follicles. If you don't know what I'm talking about, buy Dr. Mark Sewards ball python breeding video, it will give you a very good understanding of when to introduce males.
