I recently purchased a new tank for my WTF. I am trying for the antural jungly sorta look and was curious as to what you guys suggest as far as substrate plants and most importantly how do you give him adequite water. I mean it doesnt look evry natural ahving a water bowl sitting in the middle of a well planted natural looking terrarium. Please Help!

you can hide the bowl, behind plants or driftwood... or make a small pool of water by layering your substrates... the way ive done mine is to put down a layer of pea sized gravel or lava rock (lava weighs less), then larger river rocks, then either filter fiber or screen (like from a screen door) to keep the dirt out of the water and gravel... before you put the substrate down, designate which spot you want your pool to be in and wall it off with large rocks or driftood, fill the substrate around it and put water in last... it might get some dirt in but it will settle to the bottom... only problem with this is you have to periodically change the water .. i have a small 606 pump with tubing that is sealed into a "great stuff" (foam insulator) background, so there is a constant drip of water down the back of the tank.. my Squishy (whites tf)likes to sit underneath it.. the pump keeps the water from getting stagnant and i change it out weekly or sooner if it gets gross..

i just reread.. seems kind of confusing, i dont know how else to explain though.. let me know if that doesnt make sense..

I swear I replied to this yesterday...I dont know where my post went??

Anyways...in breif...

Pothos are one of the easiest plants to keep with whites, they like to squish delicate plants (ie Orchids.) if you have a galss tank, vines with suction cups attached create a grown in look very quickly. make sure you have adequate lighting if you want to grow live plants...

Sphagum moss and Cocofiber are great substraits. Pothos will grow well in both of them.

I do all my own waterfalls in my ceramic studio, it gives me complete creative freedom and I can custom do everything to the size of the frog and the tank. There are some amazing glazes out there, it looks so much more amazing than anything available in the stores. But I dont suppose you live in canada, so i cant do anything for you. what you can do is look into your local potters guild, and see if there are any studios around you, water falls are one of the easiest things to make!

Or

you can use styrofoam, grout, silicone, a non-toxic water proof sealent, and create something yourself. Just make a bowl (square...octoganal..are the easiest) seal it with silicone, and build up the wall you want the water to fall down. be sure to leave room to run the pump's tube up the back without being seen.

Any further questions? feel free to e-mail me!

Attached is a random pic of a viv I'm working on. I'm not sure what I want to do with it, but I do plan on a full out river and cork backing.
