Grunngg Oct 30, 2005 09:19 PM

Could I put one or two Red Eye Tree Frogs in my 12x12x12 tank?

Seems a bit small, to me.
I keep two in 18 x 18 x 24.

You need as much vertical space as you can for them.

NONE

Thats just over 7 gallons. way too small for even one.

Tanks are cheap, you can get a 20 gallon for under $30 if you look around.

If you are willing to buy such an expensive frog it shouldnt be a problem to spend a little extra to make them more comfortable. also, frogs that are comfortable are more likley to breed (which i'm assumnig you want if you get two...)

Or if you really want you can build 60 gallon enclosures for under $20, its VERY easy and they fit wherever you want them.

The picture is a tank (minus some branches...it wasnt quite finished at the time) I built for my Whites tree frogs. the background is corrigated plastic, sealed with aquarium silicone, in an old canning cupboard (value village $5 )

Money isn't an issue. Space is. The shelf I have the 12x12x12 tank on is pretty much full. That tank fits perfectly on it. I don't really wish to breed the frogs. I wanted two because I read that they do better in groups and knew I wouldn't have enough space for many frogs.

Ok, I still think that is too small for any combanation of RETF.

Have you considered other frogs? Dart frogs can be very rewarding, and a pair of small darts (thumbnails?) would be a good fit for your tank. they are more active during the day, and would be more attractive on a shelf. they also dont need as much vertical space, and the cube shape of your tank will better suit darts.

I haven't really thought about Darts for this tank. I do want Darts, one of these days. But I sorta envisioned something a bit bigger, like a 20 gallon long with a small colony of Darts. Oh well. I'll look more into Darts but i'll probably just getting another Invert.

You could always start out with two in the small tank, and if they breed (if you get very young frogs it could take a year) raise the offspring in a 20g long...just an idea. or get a pair of RETF for a 20g long (tall would be better) in the future, that would be perfect!

Anyways, good for you for being open to suggetion! If you want some more specific info on dart species, and where to get them, I'm sure the people in the Dart forum would be glad to help!
