Age to size ratio? Such a thing exists?

icedearthgoddess Oct 30, 2005 10:44 PM

Is there any size to age ratio? Example: 5-6 inches is around 6 months. I bought a trio from the reptile show in Costa Mesa on Saturday, and I thought he said they were 5 weeks, but would they be 5 inches at five weeks? That doesn't sound right to me. They have their spotting and they no longer have the bands of dark that turn into those spots. Please let me know if you have any info or ideas. Thanks.

P.S. I can post pics later this week. Thanks

I would have to say 5 weeks would be BS. Kirmy has been in my posesion for about a year and you casn still see the bands, They are faint but still there. Also she mesures about 4" Snout to Vent. If you look at the picture below you can see the faint bands, She was very little when I got her however I have no clue how old she was but like I said I purchased her about a year ago.

Here is something I found by googling it:

"Here is a rough size to age ratio:
3 to 4 inches = baby to 2 months.
4 to 6 inches = 3 to 6 months.
6 inches and above = 6 months to adult.
An adult Leo is usually between 7 and 9 inches.
They usually quit growing length wise between 10 and 14 months."

Does this sound about right? I am mainly asking breeders, only becasue they know what size they hatch and the approximate growth rate ratio to age. But if anyone has any input please don't hesitate! Thanks!!!

I'm guessing you are sizing them from nose to end of tail. My 12 wk old juvies were 5.25" & 5.50" at 6 weeks old. Now at 12 weeks they are both right at 7.00", these are nose to end of tail measurements, weights last time (a week ago) were 30 & 35 grams.

You cannot tell by its age by the size. Basically their growth is based on genetics, how you raise them up and the temperature in their tank. I have one gecko that gets to 6 inches in one month and 25g. So that is not impossible. Banding does not tell you about the age! Some keep fading and some don't.
