at what age can rat snakes breed?

silvano_06095 Jul 21, 2003 10:30 PM

i have just been offered 'proven breeder' trans pecos rat snakes. 1 male, two females. i asked their age, and i was told about one and a half years for all of them.

maybe i'm used to corns that have to be three (or a darned big two) to breed.

is this for real?

Trans-pecos should be raised to breeding age even slower than corns if anything so I would not be to quick to jump on them if that is their true age and they are suppost to be proven breeders. I would never consider breeding trans-pecos before at least 2.5 years of age if not more. Hope this helps.

Great looking snake Randy, and thanks for the helpful tip. I have some Trans Pecos which are older and proven, but I will of course be holding a few back this year and this will help out in determining when to breed the babies.
thanks again for your help,
Have a good one,

Gregg F.
