Just wondering how many out there have 04s big enough to breed this year.

I have a few that were really big eaters. They are 1500-1800 grams, not sure if I am going to let them breed or give them another year. They were just always hungry, every time I opened their box they would charge me wanting to eat.

I have a few that are between 1200-1400 that could go this year - but I'll be holding them back until next year.

2004 females should not be bred even though they have the size and weight!

Whats the rush knowing they could produce 2-3 more eggs next year.

Thats a matter of opinion and you know what they say about opinions!

I dont have any 04s going this year personally.

i have a few that are in the 1000g range and they went off feed on their own 2 months ago so they don't even get the consideration of breeding, hopefully they will be in the 1600-1800 range next year and give me a few good eggs. I know of one large breeder that bred an 04 female in 04 and hatched out 5 perfect babies (oh yeah out of the babies 3 were worth over $25k ). I have an 05 female that is over 750g now. she has not been powerfed (feed every 5-7 days) and the rest of her clutch are all in the 350 gm range, she's just a fast grower.

There are studies from wild balls were many many females between 1000-1400 grams laid perfectly healthy clutchs of 7-13 eggs. Now grant it - it's unlikely that those balls were a year old - as studies indicate a slower growth rate in wild balls than captives most likely they were more mature than your average captive breeder female.

I don't think the question is whether or not it can be done but more - should it be done. Afterall there doesn't seen to be any research as to how much of a toll breeding young can take on a ball or if it will negatively affect their health or future reproduction. Is it ethical to put your snakes in (possible) jeopardy for your own profit? That is the question.

i agree that one shouldn't put the snake's health on the back burner to make a profit. The snake that was bred last year was very similar to the one that I have that's just growing like crazy with no extra feeding. I think most people on this forum feed on a 5-7 day feeding schedule if not 3-5. I should have pointed out that the snake that bred at less than a year was born in jan and she was bred in dec, still young but produced an entirely good clutch and at last update is over 2500 gm now, she's just a monster of a grower, maybe it's something in the water, lol.

I have 2-3 '04 females in the 1000-1500 range. I may try breeding 1 of them, as I don't want to take the others off feed. We will see what happens.

They were all fed once a week on rats since I got them as CH hatchlings.

Hello,
We have 6 04's in the 1100-1300 gram range, and 2 04's in the 1700-1900 gram range. My 1900 grammer has already bred with my pastel once. My 1700 grammer is still eating a little, and will be going in with the pinstripe in a couple of weeks.

Good luck to everyone this season,
