obsessive burrowing!!!

skinkgirl Oct 31, 2005 02:07 PM

My schneider's skink seems to be an obsessive brrower. I have these like stackable rock tiel things in his terrarium that you can rearange and they are great for him to clime and bask on (they are right under the basking lamp) but lately it seem all he wants to do is burrow under them When he does this they cave in and I'm afraid that one day he's going to become trapped under them. They arent very heavy but it still worriesme. If IU remove them he'll probably just find something else to burrow under neath. Aslo the tiles are right next to the tank wall so when he burrow under them he ends up running in to the wall but he doesnt seem to realize it and spends forever just scratching at it and trying to burrow deeper. It's starting to worry me. Is they're any way I can satisfy his need to be under a rock for him with out him getting hurt? (and I already have two caves for him.)

He wants to be under something that makes him feel safe and secure. Put an apropriate size flat peice of cork bark in there for him. It's light, and he'll hide under there no problem.

what do you have in the tank? newspaper, sand, chips?

They like to burrow under their substrate.
