Stitch's trick or treat!!

FEENIEE Oct 31, 2005 02:33 PM

O.k. so my male vieled chameleon Stitch, does not eat crickets. In fact he hates them! So he is on a silkworm and king worm diet. So yesterday, I had taken out too many crickets to feed to the others and I decided to see if Stitch would want any of the left overs. I put the cup in his cage and he went for them, probably thinking it was his lucky day for a kingworm, he slinked down in hunting mode and zapped one up, no sooner then it hit his mouth, he spit it out and was licking his lips trying to get the legs out. He gave me the stare down the whole rest of the day. I put 2 kingworms in his cage as sort of a "I'm sorry I tricked you" treat, but he would just stare at me, like "how dare you!". This morning I gave him a horn worm and some silk worms, but he was very cautious to check them out before eating them. It's been about 8 months since he's been on his silky diet, but he won't forget the taste of the nasty crickets!

I get those stares all time, as well as the "what do you want me to do with those things...eat THEM?!?!" Stares. LOL, funny story, I bet we can almost all relate,

after having to clean about 3 bins of crickets every few days, I don't blame him for NOT wanting to eat them, hehehehh,

CadBerry, will not eat crickets either, have to ask Tyler if he ate them when he had him. I use only LARGE ones but they just wonder around the cage for a couple days, he ignores them. I finally stopped trying.

SUPERWORMS are his all time favorites! And BIG grasshoppers !

He won't eat grasshoppers either. I think it's a texture thing for him. I only feed him the kingworms after they have shed and have the white body still, so he only gets a few a week, but I tried the grasshoppers this summer and he just watched them, BUT he will go after spiders though. He got bite by one a while back and he had a bump on his chin, I was freaking out but the vet gave me some cream and he turned out fine. So I guess this is his revenge! He likes moths, so I let a few silkworms hatch out, but he will go one a hunger strike if I attempt anything too crunchy! I noticed since I've been feeding my chams mostly silkworms, they seem alot more healthy, active and their poop is never yellow or orange! I don't mind because silkies are soooo easy and my silkworm lady lives down the street, so I don't have to worry about shipping them either! All my chams love the silkworms, but for the other three, I think it's the thrill of the hunt for crickets more than anything. My sambava will chase them down to no end, but when I put silkies in his cage, he walks right up and bites them off the branch I just don't want them to get lazy tounges from such an easy prey so I always make sure they get a few crickets first, then I break out the goods!
