Genetics question

UAWPrez Oct 31, 2005 07:58 PM

If two 100% hets for albino mate, what will the resulting clutch consist of? Half of them normal looking but het and half albino? Does anyone know of a good website you could refer me to so I can learn more about how the genetics of ball pythons work?
Thanks,
Kirk

1/4 normal looking and normal genes
2/4 normal looking and heterozygous albino
1/4 albino

The best genetics web site that I know of is the Blue Genes site, and it's so-so. It says nothing about snake genetics, but dominant, recessive, and codominant mutant genes work the same in ball pythons, mice, fruit flies, and corn.

I haven't seen any genetics web site that is as good as a decent genetics text. Elrod and Stansfield's book, Schaum's Introduction to Genetics, costs less than $10 for a used, paperback copy of the most recent edition (2002) in good condition. I like its problem-oriented format.

There's an on-line site that will help if you know the type of genes you are working with: Genetics Wizard http://www.geneticswizard.com/

Both Ralph Davis Reptiles & NERD have excellent info on genetics to help teach basic & advanced stuff. I hope this helps- Deb @ NorthernRegius.com

I've seen both. To give them their due, they are above average for snake genetics web pages. Which, in my opinion, means that neither is worth the cost of the web connection.
