Ball python & gopher snake housed together

TacomaUte Oct 31, 2005 08:07 PM

I was surprised to see this at a pet store. They were getting along just fine even though the gopher was about half as big as the ball python. The gentleman who runs the store has been raising snakes for decades & said he has never had problems doing that.

I'm still a little nervous about it but I'm gonna try putting mine together. I'll just try and keep one end of the vivarium more humid than the other end.

Has anyone else done this? I would be curious to hear your experiences.

Thanks

Housing those species together is such a bad idea that it barely deserves comment. They have very different husbandry requirements. For the sake of the animals, please don't do it. Search the forums for threads about housing different species together and you'll see that the idea is discouraged by just about everyone.

Yeah, I'm definitely not gonna do it. The more I think about it I'm more amazed I am that the pet shop owner does it. If he's gotten by with it I guess more power to him, but I'm not gonna try.

I guess the question also remains on why you would want to mix such vastly different species from vastly different habitats. This is also perfect example of why petstore advice should not be taken as is. (This guy probably has success because the animals are sold before they get sick)
