Need quality pics for Rattlesnake Exhibit

Carmichael Oct 31, 2005 08:25 PM

If anyone would like to contribute some real nice quality of pictures of rattlesnakes I would love to use them for our various signage and tour guide (you will be given full credit). In particular, I am looking for nice shots of various Crotalines in their native habitat....any and all would be appreciated. You can post them here (I can cut and paste), or, email directly to me. I am also looking for some cool shots of snakes striking prey and any other natural behaviors (defensive postures, etc.). Any and all pics are GREATLY appreciated....our grand opening is this weekend so I am under the gun a bit. Thanks in advance!

Take care, Rob

Thanks man. I wish I could really capture their color and beauty though. It just doesn't compare to seeing them in real life. I need a better camera

That Tiger is/was gravid, no?

No, it is a male... just a nice healthy one

.....very very nice work there DH...I can appreciate the effort involved...not only finding those..but the hassle of sharing them w/ us....thankyou.

That # 2 scoot...looks like there might be a sprig of juniper in the view..can that be so? Where (elev) was that shot taken?

Your atrox in san-dago would be a ruber by me....specially if it were comparatively mellow like ~ 20-30% of the atrox I find.

Lastly...those neonates...what an incredibly fortunate find...if in-situ....sure like to hear more about that set of circumstances...youd think theyd choose 2-b in deep cover during parturition...

Gr8t post....thnx again Beers / RxR

>>That # 2 scoot...looks like there might be a sprig of juniper in the view..can that be so? Where (elev) was that shot taken?

I don't think it is juniper... looks somewhat like creosote to me. It was a shot from West Texas.

>>Your atrox in san-dago would be a ruber by me....specially if it were comparatively mellow like ~ 20-30% of the atrox I find.

Yeah, it certainly could be a ruber couldn't it. It's just a few hundred miles east though

The neonates were found in situ with the mother but the photograph was not taken in situ. They were found all under several rocks close to each other and we just hooked them out to get a "family shot".

awesome shots, what camera are you using?

Yani45 Nov 03, 2005 06:25 PM

Thanks Brett,

Most of these shots were on a Sony DSC-707. It's a pretty commonly used herp camera although it's out of production and you'd have to find one used on eBAY or something.

Hi John, I know the camera well, I am currently using a konica minolta 8meg pix but it took a bad fall this past spring when my father in law passed out and dragged onto the tile floor at mach 3, oddly the camera still works but has some quirks to it, I am looking at the Sony 818 which followed the 707 &717. It looks like a great camera and Sony makes good stuff as seen by your pics! Keep em coming
