plastics melting?

Can you use a heat mat and stick it on a rubbermaid or sterilite plastic container? is it safe? if you can, is it better to put it on the bottom or side? thanks

You could stick it to a piece of glass or something else.Then set the tub on top of that.BUT...you must have a thermostat!

...besides it would be a pain to clean a tub with a cord hanging off of it.
