try that fish place, that pet place. if you live close to lancaster pa its a great place to visit but if not go to www.thatpetplace.com they are a discount pet supply place so everything is cheaper.

Depending on the bedding you are using you can usually get stuff cheaper everywhere else but the petstores. Home depot or a gardening center (target, walmart or nusery) for cypress - most feed stores will carry aspen or there is the newspaper alternative. Flexwatt is cheaper than an UTH and can be bought online, I get my hides and water dished from Reptile Tubs and even shipped they are cheaper than the petstores. Some people have gotten good deals on ebay - but I'd caution that you only get new items - you never know what kind of cooties can be passed on to your collection by re-using someone eleses stuff.

i just bought some hides from big apple herp and if it is your first time buying from them, you can get a 5% discount if you subscribe to their letter...the hides were way cheaper than the pet stores...also, i deal with hermin soler reptiles out of miami and he sent me 3 pieces of flexwatt ready to go for way less than 3 UTHs...he has a website listed on kingsnake homepage...hermin soler reptiles....and i also have a catalog from that pet place and it seems to be way cheaper than anywhere else...and for you using the flexwatt without the rack would be very difficult...i suggest building a rack yourself and doing it yourself would save you a lot of money...hope this helps...

When we were having the work done on our house I ended up having to just stack some tubs in a room without the rack - I slid a piece of flexwatt under each tub and it worked out fine for being temporary. The only problem was that all of the tubs were being heated from the top and the bottom except the top tub which was only being heated by the bottom so it was running cooler than the rest - my hubby came up with the idea of putting the flexwatt on some pieces of melemine (left over from building our racks) and then sitting the tubs on top of those. Kind of like I have pictured (this is not the exact set up we used but an example that I just threw together). It worked well for the time we needed it and all of the tubs ran at the same temps, but for the long run I'd really recommend finding a rack or building even a makeshift one if possible.

thanks. i will be buying a rack when I can find something affordable, but im just worried about my new 4 babies. they have no heat and i just dont think my room gets warm enough for them. but i would hate to ruin my perfectly nice sterilites by adhering some stupid UTHs to them

i have NO handyman skills, im gonna have to look around and find someone who can build a rack for me because the ones you can buy are all way out of my range

If you are using smallish tubs - you might be able to find a cheap bookshelf or multilevel cabinet at Walmart/Target/Home Depot/garage sale that you can stack your tubs on until you get your rack built.

They have these sweaterbox racks that have a roll out system, and my brother just bought two and added some heat tape and he now has a very nice looking rack, only cost him $90 for everything, and he has housing for 12 sub adults per rack, not to shabby, also for aspen, check out some chicken farms they have some large cubes that they order for their chickens and rabbits, if they buy in bulk they will ussually let you have a 40qt cube for 5-10 bucks, Big apple is good the only let down was that I had to wait 4 weeks for a set of sexing probes, and 4 thermometers, Pro exotics does same day shipping and it is overnight for an additional 10 dollars or so,
thanks

Do you have a Ikea store by your house? or at least in the state? IF not I can email you pics of my rack that I made in 2 hours, It was extremely easy and if I could do it then you definetly could do it.
email me at axanthicluv@hotmail.com
thanks

there probably is an ikea around here somewhere. Ill check it out in person

i absolutely cannot build a rack myself. beyond the skill issue, there is literally no place to put a project-in-the-works. I am in a teeny apartment and the porch is not roofed and its now the rainy season. Definitely not an option!

They have close-out prices. I have never ordered anything here so I am unsure about their quality.
