Recommendations for incubating phantasticus eggs??

wmerker Nov 01, 2005 02:12 AM

Hello, I just looked in my phantasticus cage, and realized I had a clutch of eggs=) Always a pleasant surprise. I have never successfully hatced a clutch; I have had some that were clearly not fertile, and others that have gone full term, only to produce dead babies (like the one on Eve's post). I have set the eggs up on Bed-a-Beast in the past (moist not damp). Is there a better way? If anyone has any advice, it would be greatly appreciated! I hate to see the little guys go full term and then not hatch... Thanks!

what i did this past season was incubate my eggs at room temperature in a tupperware container with a few holes cut in the top, on a moist substrate of perlite. i was fairly successful, one egg that seemed fertile ended up not being fertile, one embryo died before hatching but wasnt even completely developed, and out of the 7 successful hatchlings i had, only one died after hatching (was pretty disappointing though seeing as it died at approximately 5 month old).

of the 6 surviving offspring from this most recent season, all are doing very well, even though 2 dropped their tails for unknown reasons.

Our eggs are inc'd at a temp between 65 and 75. this changes daily. once a week the eggs are being allowed to go down as low
as 60 and we've been having healthy strong hatchlings at about 65 days hatch out. the humidity is aroudn 80-90% on average.
