I thought most adult Children's turned into a kind of 'caramel' color as they got older. I'm not sure what an albino one would look like...

Here's a pic of our adults, they look pretty 'caramel' to me:

Who produced your adults?
I'm always a sucker for pretty childreni !
Great little snakes.

I'm raising some babies that Ryan Young produced from his gorgeous adults.

Thanks, I'm not really sure where we got them. The Children's are really my wife's project. Mine are the Savus and anthills. I'll see if she can tell me...

They came from a breeder who was going out of business and sold their collection to a third party reptile business, so I can't really say where they came from. They are great snakes however! Very curious and they seem to like eachother a lot! Their kids are cute too...

The link is to another pic of the adults - it's kinda big so you might not want to DL it if you're on dial-up.

They all look great.
I produced Childreni probably 15-20 years ago, sold them all, (including my adults) then a couple months back I purchased 1.2.

Everytime I attend a show I see baby childreni, and I always want to get back into them. This last show I did !

Can't wait to produce some babies.

Thanks again,
Gary
PS How are the temperments on your perthensis compared to your childreni?

improvius Nov 02, 2005 09:11 AM

To be fair I can only compare the hatchlings. The anthills are flat-out the most docile snake I've ever seen. Even the hatchlings don't seem to mind being held. If you cup your hands together, they will frequently use that as a hide. Them seem entirely comfortable to stay right there in your hand indefinitely, poking their heads out to keep an eye on everything. It's incredibly cute, and I'll have to get a picture of it. My yearling anthill behaves in a similar fashion, although she is just a bit too big to fit in cupped hands now.

While the Chldren's are certainly very docile, they are still not quite as laid-back as the anthills. We had one that was nippy right after hatching, but he quickly calmed down after a month or so.

I am still confused on whether to brmate, and what temperature to incubate so far I have got about 86 f degrees. What strategy do you use for incubating? When the young hatch how do you get them feeding I have read that some people actually have a higher success rate with F/T pinks than live as the babies are scared of them. Have you found this to be true? Any helpful hints and how your breed you childrens pythons would help. I have a male about 1 year old (I think I'll check later and see) who is 25 inches and about 110 grams (usually is my best eater but went off feed for a month and then started eating two weeks ago and that was when my room went to its winter temps is that why?) and am picking up a female of about the same size. The last female I had seen at the same reptile show for a while and after about 3 months decided to get her and when to the show and she was gone.
Ehh o well I am getting about 2 or 3 more females and would it help to get 1 more male?
Thanks so much for any information you give
Josh

Wow, lots of questions Quick answers…

There's a comprehensive article on childrens pythons in the recent Reptiles magazine with the pic of the corn snake on the front—I think it was by the A1pythons folks. Check your pet store.

There's also a short book that I have found at the bean farm.

It sounds to me like your snake is a bit young for breeding yet!

From my experience you don't need to do much other than put them together. Mine have just been goin' at it again recently, the male is off his feed.

Don't rush to feed your hatchlings, they're a bit difficult to get started but for the most part braining FT pinkies and a bit of assisted feeding will get them started. I still have a couple hold-outs from our last batch...

I get on question rampages. I know he is too small to breed but I know there are also no weights as like should be ... before breeding I have heard you go by age and tehy should be 4 years but it seems that a lot of other snakes are 2 years. I have read that article in reptiles U.SA that is what made me sure that my first breeding would be childrens as I might be able to break even if I breed them for a few years. I also hear they are one of the easier first breeders that is not a african house snake that I haven't been able to find(I don't want to buy on the internet), or a corn whitch I refuse to use a as a first as I hate things that are overly popular there are enough on teh market. But my childrens there aren't enough on the market so I think I want more and get them breeding. What temperature do you incubate? And you don't brmate them? but you just put them together and they breed? thanks so much for your replies Josh

Great looking snakes! Get a male and breed a pair in a couple of years.

Not all childreni are that bright as adults. I have a pair from VPI stock who are much darker brown. However, I too am a sucker for the bright, caramel colored adults. Very pretty animals!

Thanks for posting this here Lynn.

I had originally inquired about this "caramel albino" Children's after seeing it mentioned in an article I found while researching. I have become fascinated with these little guys and am currently raising a hatchling which I have suprisingly gotten off to a great start after getting it to eat...now it won't stop!

I am interested in any leads to info or images of any known albino or otherwise genetic morphs.
