Parting with my pythons......

r3ptile Nov 01, 2005 01:26 PM

Due to the recent diagnosis of an illness of a member of the family, I have to find new homes for all of my snakes. The doctor states that his immune system will be weakened during treatment and exposure to any bacteria/germs from pets, etc. can be very detrimental to him. While this of course is at the forefront of my concern, I am also very saddened to have to part with my snakes. I have a ball python, a BurmxRock, and a boa constrictor I have to find new homes for. I contacted my local Herp society and since I live in NY which bans ownership of large constrictors, they state they most likely wont take the Burm. I visited another reptile non-profit reptile sancuary online that I may consider. My main concern is that they are properly cared for and housed. The last thing I ever wanted was to become part of the statistic of giving up my Burm and other snakes. This situation is different I guess because of the circumstance but still I feel horrible.

DOn't beat up yourself. Health of the family comes first, you wouldn't part with your animals if it weren't for that. You're doing the right thing and I wish good luck and a speedy recovery to your family. Here's hoping you find a good home for those beautiful snakes.

Where in NY are you?
Can you move them to CT right next door?
