"Egyptian micro gecko" Tropiocolotes - Caresheets?

squeeker Nov 01, 2005 02:05 PM

Hello!

3 weeks ago I purchased an "Egyptian Micro Gecko". He's about an inch long. I've been trying to figure out exactly what species he is, and based on what I've found on the internet (which isn't much!) I believe him to be either Tropiocolotes tripolitanus or Tropiocolotes steudneri. I've not been able to find reliable caresheets on either species, and the photos I've found on the net of both species look similar, but still different from mine. My little guy is of the same basic body shape of the other Tripolitanus, but his colors are very vivid! He's a very prominent peachy-pink with blue splotches.

I've currently got this guy set up in a 3 gallon Kritter Keeper, with the hot side at ~90F, cool side ~75F, paper towel for substrate, and hides, water dish, etc. similar to how I keep my Leopard gecko. He (?) is eating ~8 pinhead crickets a week; last night he ate 10 baby mealworms.

If anyone could point me in the direction of a good caresheet, that would be great. Also, has anyone here kept these guys? Anything I should do differently? Info RE: humidity, calcium/vitamins, lighting?

I don't know how to post pictures on here, but if anyone wants to see a photo of "Jaws", please email me at squeeker_7@yahoo.com.

Thanks!

I'm not sure what your talking about but are you reffering to the viper gecko or carrot tailed gecko. I'll look it up on google but I have never herad of an Egyptina Micro gecko.

Herpguy24, I don't think I am referring to either of the two geckos you mentioned. As I said in my post, I believe that my "micro" gecko is either Tropiocolotes tripolitanus or Tropiocolotes steudneri, but I am leaning towards the latter. I had never heard of an "Egyptian Micro Gecko" either, that's why I'm asking!

Squeeker,
I'm sure it would help if we had a picture of "Jaws" to compare to the pics we have seen. I have seen some Steudner's Dwarf Geckos that have quite a bit of color - but still might differ from yours.

I must add that "micro gecko" is a new one on me. I am used to dwarf or pygmy gecko - as the tags for the smaller species. If you do a Google search on these, you might find more info.

Here is some info I found for "Tropiocolotes tripolitanus"
I hope it helps:

Reptayls,

I'd love to post a picture, but I don't know how. I have a few good ones of him, but don't know how to attach them into my post.

I'll try searching for pygmy and dwarf geckos, thanks.

The caresheet you posted is the one and only I've been able to find. However, I've been chatting with a member of [bleep] who used to keep T. steudneri, so I'm pretty confident that my husbandry is accurate.

I'd like to get a positive ID on him, but now it's merely for interest sake.

Thanks.

I personally have found many caresheets on both but I don't see any difference in them. I have seen a baby of one and an adult of another. I think there astounding, they look just like leo's only skinnier and longer and look alot more acitve. The one I saw was maybe 7 to 8 inches. I would think the setup is simialar to your leos. http://www.geckoworld.net/gallery/albums/t.steudneri.htm

Is this one like yours? Or this one? http://www.geckoworld.net/gallery/albums/t.tripolitanus.htm

I know you said you've found them both and they don't look like yours but was wondering if these looked like yours.

Oh, thanks, I hadn't found that site in my search.

I'd say that the Steudneri looks a lot more like mine.

It's hard to believe that this guy is going to grow to be 7 or 8 inches long, when he's only an inch now! Amazing!

Thanks!

Ground Gecko Freak,

Sorry about that, for some reason your email went to my junk folder. I've emailed you a picture.

Thanks for the help!
