enclosure size for breeding female BCC?

g.gartner Nov 01, 2005 04:00 PM

What's the minimum square footage of floor space you all recommend for keeping adult female BCC? I'm just curious as I've seen a pretty wide range of enclosures being used?

thanks,
gabriel

most common opinion i find is one square foot per foot of snake. so in that case a six foot snake would require a six square foot cage (say 3'x2'). a eight foot snake would require a eight square foot cage (say 2'x4'). personally i keep males in 2'x4'(eight square feet) cages and females in 2'x6'(twelve square feet) cages. the more space you can give the better (as long as its properly heated).

4x2 cages will work, I personally use 48x30 cages to give them more room to spread out. BCC females can get quite large so a 6x2 cage would be a good idea and if you use 2 males to breed with her you should use a bigger cage. I prefer larger cages so I can spot clean without removing the boa and plus most my adult BCC's can be pissy. 4x2 would be a min. and bigger would be better. How big is you girl? do you have any pics? Later
