"My hingeback has a split cara. Right above his left foot where the front and back plates connect. It's about 1" to 1 1/2" big. There is tissue showing. What can I do to treat this? --- Unfortunatly, it has started to happen on the left side as well. I included a picture this time. You can see how the tissue and blood are showing. (Not very well, but its there)

That is the rear hinge. The skin is actually more like cartilage, but it appears to be irritated on your tort. It shouldn't be that red. On mine it is all yellow and feels more like leather. This is what allows the tort to close up the rear portion of his shell. You should get that looked at to make sure there isn't an underlying problem. This way you will have a base line for overall health assessment in case you encounter future problems. Keep us updated.

Did you get in to see a vet? www.arav.com for a good list of herp vets. They also have a link to herpvetconnection which is a "second best" list. Also ask for referals from your local vet clinic if your still looking.

I think you said you posted a picture, but I"m unable to see it. I'm curious to see what you're talking about but it's nothing compared to a hands on DVM exam.
