Okay... I think I got everything needed but... ARGH!!!

siminix Nov 01, 2005 07:25 PM

Ok, so I have a tank, light fixture, hiding spots, moist hide, reptile carpet, calcium dish, calcium supplements, water dish, thermometer and... well, gecko.

Anyways, gecko hasn't been acting as active as she used to when I first got her, such as eating only 2 or 3 (sometimes ONE) mealworm every day or so. It wasn't until today that I finally put some calcium powder in her dish and watched her just go at it. Now, I also have no under tank heater and her thermometer reads 75 degrees, which I KNOW isn't the necessary heat... so, I told Mr. Pet Store Man "Hey! I would like to place an order for an under tank heater." And he says "Okay. It might take a week for it to get in." so I wait... one week goes by, no heater... two, no heater... three, no... four, no... and now it's November! Cold days to come! Agh... I just went to amazon.com and payed the extra $$ to get it shipped, because 4 weeks is ridiculous (and he STILL might not get it in this Friday!) Anyone else think her lethargic behavior is from lack of heat lamp?

Yes, although I'm curious about the carpet. Has anyone had a problem with their geckos loosing a toe/nail from it getting caught?

Not quite sure, but I just examined it and it looks like the kind that's looped... kind I've been warned about. Argh! How difficult is it to place tile in? That's one of the only substrate types I've heard of that sounds just perfect.

75 degrees is probably the main reason why she's only eating very little. Good thing you ordered your UTH from someplace else but you did wait a little too long. Putting tile in your tank is fairly easy if you use the peel and stick kind. Make sure it is of the fake stone type (you know, the type with grooves and stuff) because your gecko will be sliding all over the place. Tile also holds heat very well.

PS. One time, my ceramic heater burned out so I put my leos in an appropriate sized plastic container and placed it on top of my cable box for a couple of days until I bought a new UTH. (you'd be surprised how well it worked).

Don't use peel and stick vinyl tile. Or any vinyl tile. It can produce some toxic vapors because of how it's made. Use slate floor tile. The temperature at the surface of the tile should be 90 to 92 degrees, and the air temp should be around 85 with a 10 degree drop at the cool end.

Definitely sounds lethargic. 75 is way too cold!
You didn't mention vitamins, hope you've got some.
