Black and white???? sorry long

pythoner Nov 02, 2005 06:37 AM

I purchase a group of 66% het albinos, there was one that was a little grayer than the others.....well she ended up getting messy so i soaked her in a providone-iodine solution.....then when i pulled her out i saw loose skin(old shed)and began to remove it.....I stopped after only a few seconds to find out that this perticular snake was black and white(except where the iodine was) i almost finnished shedding her now and she looks like a gray-scale picture of a ball....

has anybody seen this happen to a hatchling? I think that that may have been its first shed because she is so young...what are the possiblities?

Also i will post pics when she sheds agian.....now what color backround to use...

Thanks
Stephen

If she follows the pattern of some of the others she probably will darken over time. Here is a page with one I picked up. I don't know for sure how mine started out but there have been others that where known to follow the pattern of dirty cage, one shed change, slow change back to more normal but very dark. The "G" for gene in "IMG" might be a little misleading, as I'm not at all sure it's genetic.
IMG?

What do you mean by a little messy? did she have a loose and slimy stool? and did she crawl through it? and also what were you feeding her? Paul

it sounds like your snake might be an IMG ball python. i have a female who has shown me this trait. i only have a few pictures of her when she was little but i found a few of her eating,(sorry these where the only good non blury pictures) she was about 9 or 10 months old when i took the pictures... when she was about 1 or so old i started noticing her colors and patterns changes. her patterns on her neck blended together, kinda clownish in my opinion.. keep us updated on your snake. i think this trait or this random chameleonish color changes is really interesting. im not sure what my female will have when i breed her but id like to see if there is anything to be found.. if not its still all fun!
here are some pictures i found of her when she was younger to show you what she looked like. these pictures are in order of her color change. enjoy

here she is now

this is what her shed looks like, its clear, whitish, and doesnt have any patterns on it at all
